TWG Cultural Fund
The Washington Group Cultural Fund was organized in 1994 to foster and promote Ukrainian culture in the Washington metropolitan area. Its mission is twofold; to enrich the lives of members of the Washington community by exposing them to the little known Ukrainian culture, and to preserve and nurture the Ukrainian cultural heritage by supporting its visual, literary and performing arts. TWGCF strives to achieve its goals through a variety of activities, which include the following:
- sponsoring performances or exhibitions of works by Ukrainian composers and artists
- supporting the career development of aspiring Ukrainian artists
- promoting Ukrainian culture among critics, collectors and historians
- facilitating the creation of partnerships between touring Ukrainian artists and local organizations
- establishing a clearinghouse for information on Ukrainian culture
- funding educational projects which will advance Ukrainian culture
TWGCF has promoted many artists and ensembles, including the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra, Kyiv Chamber Choir, Berkeley Chamber Chorus, the Bandura Chorus, soprano Oksana Krovytska, jazz pianist John Stetch and the International Piano Competition in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz.
