2008 TWG/Ukrainian Embassy Summer Internship

The Washington Group, in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine, seeks candidates for its annual summer internship program at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington DC. Conducted by the TWG Fellowship Fund, the project aims to provide the Embassy with an intern to serve as a research assistant. In turn, that individual would gain valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of a foreign embassy in Washington DC. The intern will receive a stipend of $1,500.

Applicants should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and be proficient in English and Ukrainian. They should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, along with computer and Internet expertise. The intern should expect to assist the embassy with needs and issues as they arise, including general office work.

Candidates should submit the following information no later than April 7, 2008:

  • a one-page essay explaining their interest in the internship, preferred starting date (in May or June), and how their background and experience meets the goals of the project

  • copies of academic transcripts

  • two letters of recommendation

  • two references

Applications should be sent to:

intern@thewashingtongroup.org

Important Note: The individual selected as the 2008 TWG Ukrainian Embassy Intern will need to make visa and travel arrangements in advance, and already be in the Washington DC area ready to start the internship in either late May or June 2008. The TWG Fellowship Fund regrettably cannot extend visa invitations to applicants, nor can it assist with other related visa or travel arrangements. The TWG Fellowship Fund is also unable to offer financial assistance to the intern beyond the $1,500 stipend.

Additional information:

The Washington Group can not find the intern a residence in the area.  All questions regarding transfer, residence, etc., must be settled by the intern.  We can try to help, but offer no guarantee.

The Embassy will arrange the terms of employment with the intern, such as responsibilities, duties, tasks, duration, and work hours.  Interns are expected to work about two months.

The total amount of $1,500 is paid at the beginning of the internship after at least one week of work at the Embassy.

The name of the chosen intern will be published on our website by April 30.  TWG will also contact the intern by e-mail.  TWG will not contact all the applicants who were not chosen.

“References” are simply names of individuals who are willing to support your candidacy, with contact data.  “Letters of recommendation” are written statements from those with whom the candidate has dealt with on a professional basis, such as a supervisor.

You may provide letters of recommendations from anyone you choose and they may be written in the either the Ukrainian or English language.

If you study in more than one university, please send your transcripts from each.  All application materials should be sent in electronic format by e-mail.

Resumes are also welcome.

Thank you for your interest in TWG’s annual Embassy Fellowship.

Sincerely,
Tanya Kramska
Fellowship Fund Chair
